3.0 Thesis statement

Can the traditional fisheries industries  and community sustain in the future modern day and what are the medium that can be a catalyst for their revitalization and sustainability?In the past  few decade fisheries industries in east coast side of peninsular Malaysia always facing controvercial issues from time to time.There are several issues will come out when we talk about traditional fisheries industry in east coast peninsular Malaysia.Monsoon season influenced fishermen community `s life pattern.In the modern day poverty problem among fishermen community is a crucial problem.Their traditional lifestyle adaptation not longer suitable to cope with the modern lifestyle of our country.

Borrowing  money from the fish traders is the common action from the  fishermen and traditional fishing culture since generations. Fish traders  is the place fishermen depend during monsoon season to survive. Therefore no wonder why  the fishermen sell the fish to the fish traders with the low price.The fish traders can manipulate the fishermen with their debt to get the fish with low price.This issues course negative impact for the socio-economy  of the fishermen community.

In this paper  the huge amount of traditional fishermen can be a potential and opportunities to develope the existing fisheries program that will be mixed with new program that can boost up the existing traditional fisheries industry and community economic viability in east coast peninsular Malaysia.

The tool for the revitalization in this proposal paper is aqua-culture activities and mechanism which will be hybrided with existing local traditional fisheries activities to form aqua-marine tourism. Aqua-culture,usually known as aquafarming,is the farming of aquatic organism such as fish ,crustaceans.mollucs and aquatic plants,FAO(2003).The existing fisheries  and the new aqua-culture program  will be investigate and studied trough the process of design thesis on how the program can be interrelated and hybrided each other.The studies on how the two program can sustain each other also will be carried out though this research.The researcher believed that aqua-tourism can be catalyst for initiating sustainable tourism activities and diversifying rural activities.From the issues and potential , the aqua-tourism proposal that is performed by these hybrid program can boost up fishermen economy especially during monsoon season and can develop fishermen skill up to date despite linking them to the outside world.

By mixing the off shore program with the new  aqua-culture program  and integrate it with aqua-tourism it will produce the new  viable  programme that can probably help to revitalize  the monsoon season activities and traditional fishermen earlier issues in the east cost of peninsular  Malaysia and can be a model of traditional fishermen  complex stereotype for the place which is also have unstable weather and monsoon season

The researcher believe that the traditional fishermen should be given a chance to link with the outside world and vice versal through this project.By doing this their profession  will on par with development of fishermen world wide.The centre will help to materialized this vision.By providing a hub or centre for the activity to be carried.How  the existing fishermen off shore program could be hybrided with new affordable high technical aquaculture program to form unique aqua-tourism brand  and what are the detail components of its could be a design generator and an important point for this design thesis and research development

2.0 Abstract

North east monsoon winds causing rough seas have prevented the east coast of peninsular malaysia fishermen to go out to sea on monsoon season .There are several issue when we talking about eastern peninsular malaysia`s fishermen especially during north east monsoon season like their  source of income is too depend on fish traders.

This becoming an issue as they losing  their income during  monsoon season .Traditionally these fishermen usually rely an odd job such as repairing main  fishing equipment .This will  support  their economy  a little bit but there is no other activities  that could help to gain their income.The government is trying to help them to create bussines  for the fishermen by providing incentive and loan  to open up business base on aqua marine product but  the program from  the government Is not  too feasible for the community and yet the poverty statistic  is till high.

Aqua-marine tourism is a tool that has been widely used around the world for the purpose of intensifying the socio-economic aspects of the fishermen community . The concept of aqua-marine tourism is a direct expansion of eco-tourism, which encourages visitors to experience aqua-marine  community lifestyle at first hand.Aqua-culture,also known as aqua-farming,is the farming of aquatic organism such as fish ,crustaceans.mollucs and aquatic plants.FAO(2003)The main objective of this paper is to unveil the potential socio-economic benefits that can be offered by the aqua-marine tourism activities to revitalize  and reprogressive fishing communities in monsoon affected area.The paper will carry out the research on how the the existing fishermen off shore program could be hybrided with new affordable high technical aqua-culture program to form unique aqua-marine tourism brand the can give new spark for the fisheries industries.

Beside this ,the study will try to uplift the characteristics of conventional fishing port to be utilized for the project.it is hoped that the aqua marine complex will be significantly recognized as the local aqua marine complex strongly.
